Deleted Hightail Problem

I'm having the exact same problem as this poster:

https://bit.ly/2kQ8SNc

His explanation is identical re: having tried to delete Hightail for Lenovo.

Even the "This feature …..network unavailable." "Click OK......installation package 'AMD64.msi in the box below.

Use source C:\…………….\E003....\High Tail"

I can't seem to be able to get past the initial post looking for an answer.

Its a business customer.

Everything the OP tried I also did, even before I found this post.

I tried a System Restore but its still there.

Pete

    Thanks Greg.

Your response was great. I've copied it into my personal help files for future reference. You have a great way of explaining and directing a non-professional average PC user.

When I clicked on the Google header describing the problem, I thought I was signing in to my Lenovo support site.

    Pete

Hi Pete. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Volunteer Guardian Moderator here to help you.

Did you try everything in the tutorial here for that error that works for most:

    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/the-feature-you-...

Update the Display driver from the PC or Display adapter maker's Support Downloads web page for your exact model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag - from the sticker on the PC.

While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS/UEFI firmware (very important), network, sound, USB3 and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

if this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...

or the Nvidia Update utility here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=e...

or the AMD autodect utility here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...

For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.

You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers.

    For Windows Installer errors;

Right click task bar to open Task Manager. If necessary show More Details

On Details tab look for msiexec.exe, highlight to End Task.

Now try install or uninstall again.

If this doesn’t help you can try to Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/...

This can be symptomatic of corruption. Go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

If nothing else helps you can run a Repair Install by installing the Media Creation Tool and choosing from it to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows in about an hour while saving your files, apps and most settings, solves many problems while also bringing it up to the latest version 1809 which you need anyway and by the most stable method. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

I wrote out that reply for you, spent some time trying to find the right repairs.

But since you're now saying this is an IT Pro environment, you are asking at a forums that is strictly consumer oriented. I would ask at our sister forums for IT Pro's Technet:

Thank you for the generic reply. Sometimes they work. This is, (was), a perfectly running Lenovo Ideapad. As the Company's IT, all their computers are up to date regarding drivers, updates defaults, etc.

This is a problem involving a particular Lenovo app that gets stuck and makes the PC nonoperational.

    I'll try a Lenovo support.
