It is not a bug. it is a program hidden deep in the bowls of window's 10. Where can I find the program that is currently opening my JPG's. When I checked my program defaults it said the program/app "photos" is being used as my computers photo viewer. Like I said above I can open jpg's from explorer (double click), and in the upper left corner of the viewer it says "photos" I just need to point my program to the default MS Windows viewer Photos. Which I cannot seem to locate. It is pretty simple what I am attempting to do but for the life of me MS makes simple tasks more difficult with every upgrade.
Where is MS Photo viewer exe located
Sorry this is a bone head question but I am at wits end and googling the questions did not help.
I have a brand new windows 10 computer. One of my programs wants to to know how to handle/display jpg's. Everyone suggests to me that MS Photo Viewer program included free with windows 10 is the way to go. I am not even sure what I was using in Windows 7. So when my program asks how I want to handle JPG's I browse to:
c: programs\windows photo viewer\
In this directory and one sub directory the only one exe file that can be seen imagingdevices.exe. Click on that and it starts to add/configure your imaging scanner. When I scanned the computer for photo*.exe My computer found only one file and it was not it. I opened a jpg file in explorer by double clicking on it and the photo opened and in the upper left corner of the pane it says "photo -<name of photo>" ut I could not find any "properties" option/pull down so I could trace this back to the programs source. I have wasted 2 hours trying to do this simple task that I have done hundreds of times before. It should not be this difficult!
Back up plan abandon MS Window recommendation and find a good viewer on the net and install. Recomendations.

2019-09-29T19:28:17+00:00 OK still have not explained this clear enough. Just bought a new windows 10 computer replacing a 5 year old windows 7. I run a smallish but specialized program called I-Jaxed winch is used to do specialize inspection reports of of construction and/or material testing. It produces said report but allows someone to add additional information in the form of attachments, When installed it needs to know where to find the program to run/display the attachment. Could be video, sound, pdf's, word. excel, cad or photos (jpg's). So yesterday after installing the program, using a browse option, I mapped video to windows media player to as follows:
Video - C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
I was able to play video from the program
Sound - C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
I was able to play sound/wave from the program
I did the same thing for pdf's, AutoCadd, WORD and Excel no problems all worked. But when I tried to map to Windows Photo Viewer the directory was empty. I then opened up a photo from a folder and it was opened by an app/program called Photo. manually looked and could find a directory for Photo. I then had the computer look for Photos, Photo, Windows Photo and on and on, and I could not find the program/exe I tried using wild cards in my search, but could find nothing. Got on Google where is the Photo.exe located. Again I tried all sorts of combination nothing. Mt Windows 10 computer has an app on it called Photo's that is working perfectly fine. I need to find where this program is so I can map I-Jaxed, in order to to see the pictures within i-jaxed.
Yes I could save the file to a Windows 10 folder, then open it from the folder, but it is so much easier to look on i_jaxed and decide what is important and what is not.

2019-09-29T17:40:30+00:00 You are very kind and informative with your reply. What you describe above I have done and my jpeg/jpg open fine in almost all situations. To be honest I really do not care what viewer application my computer is using Photos, Windows Photo viewer or what ever. I have one program, that needs me to map the exact path to the/an executable (exe) file that will open said viewer. I searched the computer, for the file. I have Google to find the location, but can not find the actual file/executable in my windows 10 (for the program/app Photos) that is opening/displaying photos for my computer. I do not need to edit or change the jpg's just open. Thank you for all of your help, and I am sorry if my frustration is getting the best of me.

2019-09-29T16:06:38+00:00 Open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features
Scroll down to Photos Select it Click Advanced options Click Reset Restart Check the Store for updates then check if you open JPEGs again. Also, point to one of the JPEGs, right click it
Click Properties
Under the General tab, click Change
Choose Photos
Click OK
Click Apply then OK
Try opening the JPEG
If that does not work, right click the JPEG, click Open with, click Paint to see if it opens.
Give this a try then:
Press Windows key + X
Click Windows PowerShell (Admin). At the command prompt, type the following, hit Enter the restart.get-appxpackage *Microsoft.Windows.Photos* | remove-appxpackage
Download again from the Store:

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.
Microsoft removed Photo Viewer from Windows 10 a few versions back, but you can use a utility called WinAero Tweaker to put it back.

If it does not work, then this functionality is likely broken because of the significant changes to Windows 10 over the past few years.
I would also recommend you submit a feature request; send me the short link so I can vote on it and bring it to the attention of the Windows engineers.
See instructions how to file the bug report.
