Why Does Windows automatically show file extensions. I uncheck the File Name Extensions in the folder view tab under show/hide. Then for now reason Windows will re-check File Name Extensions in the folder view tab under show/hide. This is SO ANNOYING.

How do I permanently keep the  File Name Extensions unchecked?

You can disable it by going to view and unchecking the Files Name Extension if it is already checked

Been there and done that several times. I even went to View Tab in options and checked Hide extensions for known file types and again Windows on its own unchecks Hide extensions for known file types and checks the Show/Hide File Extensions in the View tab of a folder.

    Dear Harry,

Try uninstalling Trend Micro if it is easy for you to reinstall it after to see if it fixes your problem.

If you can't uninstall it, try disabling it totally to see if your problem gets fixed.

    Regards,

    Hadrien
