Windows 10 Fonts Appearing Garbled After Installing Update

Hi,

I have an Alienware 17 R5. Some Windows Updates were installed on my device recently, and they seemed to have corrupted my Windows 10 system font. For instance, this is how some Start menu items appear for me. Microsoft Edge's fonts are all messed up as well (note how some characters appear only partially).

I have run this solution and it said the corrupted files were repaired. But it didn't seem to resolve my problem. Both Windows Update and Alienware Support Center show that I don't have any pending updates.

What am I doing wrong? I didn't spend premium pricing on this combo of Alienware and Windows 10 to run into these issues? Can anyone help?

    Hi ARGranger

Greetings! I am Vijay, an Independent Advisor.

    1. To restore your fonts in Windows 10

Type control in Cortana search > Control Panel > Fonts > Font Settings > Restore default font settings.

    1. If you don't get respite, you will need to build your font cache.

    Hi Vijay,

Thank you for responding. Unfortunately rebuilding the font cache didn't help. I had tried that before and I tried it once again.

I went to that "winaero" page as well. I tried removing the font cache files but the system kept telling me it was unable to delete the files as they were already in use by another program. I had stopped the Windows Font Cache service already. I'm not sure what's the issue. The second solution on the "winaero" page was to install a third-party program. I don't want to do that.

As of now, my issue remains unresolved and no one from Microsoft itself is heeding to it.

    Hi,

I tried booting it in safe mood and removed the Font Cache successfully.

I restarted my system afterwards, and the issue still persists.

I'm honestly at a loss of what to do. Microsoft here is so lacking in support that it's infuriating.
