Let's use your Documents folder as an example:
C:\Users\your user name\Documents
Ideally, you want to move this folder to:
D:\Users\your user name\Documents (doesn't need to be 'D' specifically)
After setting up this folder on your D: drive, return to your C: drive. Right-click on C:\Users\your user name\Documents and select Properties from the context menu. Now turn to the Location tab. Having already created the folder on your D: drive, you can click on the 'Find Target' button.
There are two things you want to accomplish:
1- Make the new folder (on the D: drive) the default folder for your documents going forward; and
2- Move your already-existing documents from C: to D:
Note: After you do this, you will notice that the old folders still exist on C: even though they are empty. Windows keeps them there, in the unlikely situation that you are using old software that is hard-coded to work with the Documents folder in C:
