Can not connect Android 4.4.2 kitkat phone to PC

I am having trouble connecting a Windows 10 laptop to an Android phone. It's a Posh E500A, 4.4.2. When I plug in the phone, the laptop does not see it. I can not see anywhere on the phone where I can choose MTP. I swipe down on notifications and do not see a charging status although it is charging. The ports work. I removed then reinstalled the drivers on the laptop.

Anyone have an idea how to fix this? The plan is to copy everything on my phone, then get a new one!

Thanks much for your help.

    Hi BeMaNe

I'll try to help you on this issue.

Nothing happens on the computer when plugged ? No "plug" sound, no icon ?

Some ideas that crossed my mind :

    • Have you tried a shorter cable ? sometimes, long cables can affect the data link.
    • Have you tried another USB port ?
    • Maybe another computer to test on ?

About the USB setting on the phone, it might be hidden in the "dev menu".

You can find it by following the tutorial on this page :

Turn on USB Mass Storage mode in Android 4.2 or later versions Android 6/7/8

I don't know how the backup apps works. You'll have to try it out.

About google keep and evernote, they are already synced on the cloud.

    Thanks Jay#222,

I tried pretty much everything and no luck yet.

The connection is not automatically recognized. I tried 2 cables. I can see the charging only. I tried 2 usb ports. I can't see anything in the developer menu. I uninstalled an reloaded the device usb drivers.

    So, any other ideas?

    Thanks !!!!!

    Bema

    Thank you Iacrumb.

    I don't get a charging notification.

I did find a data connection option under networks. I turned that on. then tried the usb cable I got with the phone. Shut the phone off and on. Then the laptop saw the phone. Connection was sporadic. So I assume the cable is not that great. Don't know what else made it work.

    Anyone know?

    Thanks much.

    Bemane

With my Samsung phone when I plug it in it starts charging.  To transfer files I have to click on the Charging notice on the phone and then click to let there be a transfer to the PC.
