guidance running legacy products "Outlook Express" and "Genie Backup"

I have a Seagate eSATA external hard drive that contains data from several

years ago. To access the data under Windows 10, I will need to obtain current

versions of two "legacy" software products: 1) Outlook Express(OE); 2) Genie

Backup(GBM). I was pleasantly surprised to find that Windows 10 versions of

both products are available.

The OE data is stored in GBM files. Once I restore the OE data, I will need

to be able to read it into an OE session. So, after that rather lengthy

preamble, here's the crux of my question:

***What is necessary for me to open an OE account? I'm using an email client

called Thunderbird. The ISP is Spectrum. Ultimately, I'll probably need to

contact the vendors of both of those products, but I thought it might help

to get an opinion and guidance here first.

Thanks. SweetTasha

    Hi SweetTasha,

My name is Riccardo and I would be happy to help!

As you've stated, Outlook Express has been discontinued and is now a legacy product with no support; however, there are third-part vendors that have created a version of Outlook Express for this exact purpose.

This is a third-party vendor that provides Outlook Express to you: https://www.oeclassic.com/download

I've personally tested and it works fine; but, as with anything, you need to proceed with caution as this is not software that is approved by Microsoft.

This will allow you to at least restore the Outlook Express Data and export it in a format that will allow you to possibly put it into the Thunderbird application.

As for the GenieBackup, it looks like this application is still available: https://www.zoolz.com/genie9/

You may be able to download the trial and at least get your data restored for what you need with no cost.

I'm hoping the above answers your question and if you need any further assistance please do not hesitate to let me know.

It's helpful to know that you've tested it. I'll take a look at the site you reference.

*You may be able to download the trial and at least get your data restored for what you need with no cost.*No cost would be sweet! It may be one of those deals where have to purchase, but you have 30 days within which to cancel and get it credited back to your card. Which is OK. The backup product is the key, because all of the OE data is in backup files; none of it is useful until it's restored.

Thanks for you help. I'll go ahead and mark our reply as the answer. If I have anything to add later, I can reply back.
