The first thing you need to do is acquire an e-mail program (Windows 7 does not come with one). There are many choices, some by Microsoft, some by third parties; some free, some free, some for sale. Do  web search to find out what the choices are and which one you might want.

I'll also mention that another choice is using a webmail service such as gmail instead of an e-mail program. Webmail has become very popular lately but as far as I'm concerned, it's a terrible choice. In my view, the worst e-mail program is a better choice than the best webmail. I strongly recommend against webmail.

    1. You can use Webmail: Outlook, com (Hotmail replacement), Yahoo, Gmail, AOL, etc..
    2. Or download an email program and install it.

Then use the settings for email that your Internet Service Provider should have for you.

    1. Windows 7 does not come with a built-in email program.

If you would like Windows Live Mail, you can still get it at:

    http://web.archive.org/web/20170112124505/http://wl.dlservice.microsoft.com/download/C/1/B/C1BA42D6-6A50-4A4A-90E5-FA9347E9360C/en/wlsetup-all.exe

WLM, no longer supported by MS, but really does not stop it from working just fine.

You can also use emclient and thunderbird.
