Converting WMA music files to MP-3 safely.

I see free downloads to convert music files from WMA to MP-3, but when I read the small print they are also gaining access to my music library and other parts of my computer.  Does Microsoft have a specific download for this purpose built into my Windows 10, or is there a Microsoft recommended download for this purpose?   thank you.

    Hi there

My name is Jon and I am an independent technical adviser. I would like to assist you with your question.

You can convert wma files from a CD to mp3 files using Windows Media Player built in to Windows 10.

First of all, you need to get WMA file from CD to your computer. Insert CD and open it with Windows Media Player, click on Tools > Options and select Rip Music tab. Then specify the location you want ot rip music to and choose MP3 as the Format. After that hit OK to proceed.

You can also use VLC Player which is a free 3rd party application.

    No problem :)

Windows Media Player will only convert from CD wma to mp3.

As far as I understand VLC player is a free tool that will not acquire any of your personal information and will work offline.

Jon, first - thank you.   My existing library resides on my computer and further downloads would not be necessary.  1)  Will the Windows Media Player built into Windows 10 allow me to convert existing files in my existing library from the WMA to the MP-3 format?   2) If I choose to use VLC, does the VLC Player gain access to my computer or acquire portions of the information on my computer by virtue of the "free download".   3) I am willing to pay for a Microsoft product if necessary to insure the integrity of my personal information. Is such a purchase necessary for this process?    Thank you again.
