Can I upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 instead of Windows 10? And if so, will I still be able to get Windows updates and technical support for Windows 8 after January 14, 2020?

Support for Windows 8, including updates ended in Jan, 2016.

Extended support for 8.1 goes to 2023.

Windows 8.1 does not come for free; you have to buy it.

    Microsoft no longer sells it.

    Try amazon.com, etc.

Follow these steps before you buy and Upgrade to Windows 8.1; extended support ends January 10, 2023 .

Check to see if your Computer/Laptop Manufacturer has Windows 8.1 Drivers available for your Model.

If not available, Windows 8.1 will not install and work correctly for you.

    Warning:

You do not buy a Product Key by itself, as they are normally stolen/pirated, Volume Licenses which are not for private use, or MSDN keys which are not to be sold by the original subscription holder.

Make sure that you buy the complete sealed package (DVD, license)

Read Section: Beware of Product Keys sold separately.
