Why's Microsoft forcing me to buy a new PC?

Hi, I'm more than happy to upgrade to MS 10 from 7, but why, in this day and age of re-using, up-cycling and trying not to be a throw-away society is Microsoft forcing me to buy a new PC (well, I only use a laptop) - the one I have is in perfectly good working order. I'm stamping my foot here! I don't want to buy a new piece of hardware for this one to end up in landfill. Thanks for your feedback (I'm new here!) Jac

EXACTLY!!!! Mr. Sumit (Independent Advisor)You are backing people into a corner and holding them hostage to your three ultimatums. 1. Either buy a new computer, which most cannot afford, especially right after Christmas. 2. Buy your outrageously expensive software update when most have been faithful Microsoft users for many many years. Finally, the 3rd option is, "Well, too bad for you, especially to those who only live paycheck-to-paycheck or are on a fixed-budget.  My respect for Microsoft Corporation just took a nose dive. Shame on Microsoft, this is bad business practices. It is obvious by internet traffic that Microsoft may have just made the wrong move.

Jac- you can download other operating systems and that is what I recommend and so many others are as well. I have 10 on my laptop and hate it. Anyway, make sure you do good research to see what works for you and I will be pushing for a Microsoft boycott.

I disagree. Microsoft has over 1.5 billion users and when those  1.5 billion users are given 3 ultimatums, how do you think they are reacting. They are forcing people to upgrade to 10, which I personally do not like at all, and they are charging for these upgrades that are not cheap. Someone mentions where you MAY be able to upgrade for free. However, Microsoft is really pushing for its 1.5 billion users to buy a new computer and if you have ever read any of their materials when advertising this info. its almost put out there like a threat. Lastly, its a too bad for you 1.5 billion users if you do not like it. I feel safe to say that a large portion of those users are seeking other OS's and I am one of them. So, yes they are in their round about way.

Does Microsoft care that so many computers are using Windows 7?  Do they care that there are so many computers that will be thrown away and how much money will be lost by doing so?

All this just so they can force people to buy Windows 10?  I have used all the versions of Windows and Windows 7 has been the most stable.  Windows 10 is not and has not been better.

I don't think it is right to force people to upgrade.  Windows 10 is expensive and should be free for people who voluntarily want to upgrade!  Manufacturers are not providing printer drivers so you have to get another printer as well! In fact there are not many compatible drivers available.

I have first hand experience with this.

Now, I believe in the near future , Microsoft will force us to use a cloud version of Windows....which is very unsecure and is constantly being hacked.

If that happens, I'll either switch to a Mac or one if the other Operating systems available.

I believe that this is an unfair business practice and should be challenged in court!

This response totally fails to address the question asked by the OP, which is not "why move to Windows 10", but why does Microsoft want us to discard a lot of perfectly usable hardware

Microsoft is definitely not forcing you to buy anything. If you want to stay with Windows 7, just ignore Microsoft's recommendation and stay with Windows 7. Just be be sure to run third-part security software that is updated as needed.
