Hi,

I have an XBox 360 HD-DVD Drive that i want to use to view my HD-DVD's in Windows 10.

I have installed it and it reads standard DVD's and plays them. But it does not recognise any HD-DVD's...

Im at a loss why it doesn't even recognise the disc let alone play it?

Any ideas???

Cheers,

Josh

    Hey josh,

so i have the xbox 360 hd-dvd player that i use on my pc. This is going to be a tough one, but entirely Fixable.

the first thing you must know is this is a toboshi hd dvd player that is no longer supported by toboshi. The good news is all you are missing is the correct drivers and this will be (kinda) good as new.

disclaimer: while i have used this as a dvd, cd, player i have never gotten the hd-dvd player to work, as such i will not tell you step by step instructions but will point you in the right direction and wish you the best.

there is a form post on the hd dvd website that has a bunch of guys that claim they have gotten the player to 100% functionality. I have gotten the player to play a hd dvd, but only in a very small screen.

ok so i lost  Interest so ill make this quick. You need to get a player like the Windows player or another player that plays the hd dvds format. Then you will need a driver for the player from toboshi. You can find the model in the form i mentioned. The xbox player has a clone that is kinda supported. Find that model number and manually download the driver.

Its a bit of work, but if you can get both parts ot will work.

I never found a program that plays the hd dvd format. Good luck.

Hello, my name is Arif Ahmed, Windows Advisor.

I would be happy to help you.

Did you try any other HD-DVD?

Did you try the play the HD-DVD on VLC Media player?

Windows Media Player may not have the codec to play the HD-DVD format.

    Hi Arif,

I dont believe its a player issue, more that windows doesnt recognise the disc. See below

If i insert a standard DVD in the drive i get the populate drive as per below (dvd.jpg)

However if i insert any HD-DVD that i have (that used to play in this drive when i had Windows 7) i get this (hd-dvd warning.jpg) when i try to open the drive in File Explorer.

And this is the result when i try to populate the volume in device properties.

Its almost as if Windows 10 knows the drive is there, knows its a DVD but cant see the data as its HD-DVD format??

    Cheers,

    Josh

    Hi Arif,

i tried that before posting to the forum. The trial works with a standard DVD, but does not with a HD-DVD.

    Cheers,

    Josh

Okay, please download the Free Trial of Windows DVD Player from Store and check if the DVD is compatible.
