My wife is using an ASUS laptop, having recently upgrading to the latest windows 10 a week or so ago. She was using Skype for a business call when it came up with a message says that for security reasons, Skype was going to be shutdown. Skype shut itself down and the laptop then shut down itself after. i started it up again, opened Skype again and next thing was the message 'locking' and it shut down. Now I cant even boot it up. Please can you advise?

Still looking for an answer. my daughters computer did this and we need it for school too

    Hi Heather,

In the end our problem turned out to be a depleted battery. Bizarrely we had to wait for the battery to completely discharge before it would restart so we left it unplugged overnight to let the remaining power drain away and then plugged it back in the next day and it worked as normal. After it switched on we left it to fully recharge the battery before using and all was good. It has happened a few times again since then and we think the reason is because the power supply connector occasionally works loose or isn't plugged in tightly enough and consequently we thought it was running off of mains power where as it was actually running off of the battery which, when it gets low enough, triggers the "Windows Locking" alert and disables/shuts down the PC.

    With kind regards.

What should I do if pressing and holding the power button doesn't work to turn the computer back on?

    Hi, CityPsychology

My name is Jeffrey and I am an Independent Advisor. I would be happy to help you today.

Try entering Safe Mode to repair

Press and hold the power button for 5 to 10 seconds to perform a complete shutdown

Do this three or more times.

Windows will start in the Recovery Environment and from there you can access System Repair, Safe Mode, Command Prompt

Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced options - Reset this PC

Then you will have 3 options:

    Keep my files and applications

    Keep my files

    Not save anything

Select the option that suits your needs and click Reset

If after executing these steps you still cannot log in, you can create a Windows USB to repair it.

I recommend you look for another computer to create a USB and repair Windows

Hi - please see my reply earlier in this thread dated June 17th 2020. We had exactly the same problem - no lights when plugging in the charge cable. I really thought the pc or the cable had broken but it was all down to a depleted battery. Leave it unplugged for 12 to 24 hours and try again tomorrow. There are quicker ways of depleting the battery according to the internet (a combination of keys pressed and held down) but none of that worked for us. We had to just leave it and allow the battery to drain naturally. Good luck and I hope this helps.

If all else fails. Make sure your charger is plugged in to a good outlet.

Does the light come on your laptop, when you plug the charging cord into it.
