I am trying to copy a file from my computer to a flash drive usb stick to transfer the file to my laptop. My computer is using windows 10, nothing happens when I put the usb stick in the computer. I don't have a clue how to do this. Any help would be welcome.

Hi Ashton, thanks so much for the help.  I thought that was how it should look, but as it is about 2 years since I have even looked at my computer, I wasn't sure what was what anymore.  Anyway, nothing showed under File Explorer, so when in doubt I did the old standby and rebooted everything, and guess what, there it was.  Problem solved.

    Many thanks,

    Regards, Linda

    Hi Linda,

I am an independent advisor and a Microsoft user like you, and I would be happy to help you out with this.

When you plug in the USB stick into your computer, sometimes there will be a popup window that comes up which you can click on to open it.

If it does not appear, please navigate to File Explorer, and then click on This PC. I have attached a screen shot on where to open it.

Here, you would typically see the USB drive, possibly as E: or F: or another drive letter that was not previously there under "Devices and drives".

You can double click it, and it will open the drive. You can then copy and paste files onto the drive to copy files to it.

If it is not displaying, please try to plug your USB drive into a different USB port on the computer.

I hope this has helped you. If you require any additional assistance, or the drive is not showing up, please reply and let us know and we would be happy to look into providing some different suggestions!

    Regards,

    -Ashton
