**** MS WINDOWS 1 !!!!!!!!

I have a Brother  HL-2040 laser that sort of old and a sort of stupid printer (When I say Stupid I mean a WYSIWYG Printer. BTW crystal clear !!! For several years the Brother2040 has been a reliable and cost effective part of my home office). Brother's website "says  this driver are already in windows 10. IT WILL NOT connect over direct connect via direct USB (like 10 times).  Please contact me to find  a fix as for my needs I have years of Toner and the quality is superb.

BTW, I am sinding this to "BROTHER" as well because as a BSEE / Project Manager that specifies millions of dollars of product I know if you jingle ALL the bells "STUFF" gets fixed. Maybe Brother and MS can confer and can my "older printer" fit into a modern version that will work in just WYSIYIG.

WARMEST REGARDS!

R WILSON

    Hi Robert,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are facing issues with using printer, as it is not getting detected by the PC when connected via USB.

Upon checking the Brother website, I found that the drivers are integrated in Windows 10 for the model of the printer that you are using. One of the things that you can try is re-installing the printer drivers and check if you are able to use the printer. Refer the section Download and install the driver from the printer manufacturer’s website and sub-section What to do if the driver doesn't install from the article How to install the latest driver for your printer

In addition, you may want to refer the article Fix printer connection and printing problems in Windows 10

You can also refer the article Install the built-in drivers (For Windows 8 or later)

Let us know how it goes.
