    Hello I'm Smart....

To defrag your HDD, depending on the Windows you are using, I will directing you using Window 8.

From your Computer *My Computer Icon* after you've opened it, you will see your hard drives, select the one in which your operating system runs on. Right click on it, Go to Properties and click.

From the information box, locate Tools and click.  Locate Optimize Drives and click.

If you want to defragment your drive, click Optimize. It's best to do this when you don't need to use your computer for anything else, so you can let Windows defragment the drive efficiently.

You can decide to Analyse first, depending on the time you've got.

    Thanks.

    Thanks,

My computer has begun to freeze up almost daily and it has become slow.  I just thought I would try some things that I had heard about in the past.  I'm a 74 year old non techy just trying stuff.

See your other replies, and also note that it is periodically done automatically. It's not necessary for you to do it manually.

Defragment only works on HDD hard drives and it has no impact on SSD.

However, if you open start and search for Defragment , you will find the Defragment and Optimize Drives when you could run defragment.

Hello Ivan, i'm Timon and i'm glad to help you.

To launch "Defragment and Optimize Drives", type defrag in the start menu or the search bar.

Then select the disk drive you want to optimize and hit the Optimize button.
