Num Lock problem during startup

Hi All,

I'm using Lenovo G500s Laptop for more than 6 Years. Whenever i turn on the laptop or restart it for the windows update, the laptop is getting stuck in Lenovo Logo with num lock button enabled in the keyboard automatically.

During startup, the num lock button will enable by default and stays longer till i manually remove battery and reboot it. Sometimes, it will go off during startup and the Screen will boot to windows.

Why this is happening? What can be done. Please help me out on this as windows updates are still pending.

Regards,

Kamesh.S

    Hi Greg,

The reason why i'm telling is, i see the NUMLOCK button turns ON at startup for longtime does & not boot to windows at all until and unless i remove battery and re-startup the laptop.

Alternatively, that is the other way round, when i startup the NUMLOCK Key will be in ON but after few seconds it will get turned off automatically and the moment it turns off the windows will proceed to load from lenovo logo screen.

    To keep it simple,

If the NUMLOCK Key is enabled during startup, it wont boot to windows.

If the NUMLOCK Key is disabled during startup after few seconds automatically, it will boot to windows.

I don't know why the Numlock would cause the BIOS screen to hang, never heard of that. What makes you think that's the cause?

If you don't want Numlock enabled at Startup then make that change in the BIOS Setup or if not there in the registry using the opposite of the change that the tutorials specify for enabling it.

    Hi Greg,

Can you tell me why the NUM Lock is ON during startup by default?

I want the NUMLOCK to be disabled during startup so that it doesn't hang in the Lenovo logo and will proceed to BOOT to windows.

    I see.

Did you check in BIOS setup if your Lenovo has the Numlock settings?

If not use one of the methods to disable Numlock at Startup here:

    https://www.technipages.com/enable-disable-numl...

Set a System Restore point first: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r...

System Restore is your first line of defense if Windows ever malfunctions as it can run even from recovery media to get you back before a problem started. It should always be turned on C drive with plenty of disk space (5-15%) configured. Here's how to check and when necessary how to run System Restore: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r...

Keep me posted on your progress as I will be here to help until the case is resolved.

Hi Kameysh. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 years Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator here to help you.

See if one of these help:

    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-B-and-G-Ser...

First I'd go into BIOS Setup as shown here to try to find a Setting for Numlock on some Lenovo models:

    https://www.mydigitallife.net/comprehensive-lis...

    http://www.isunshare.com/windows-password/four-...

If not then you'll need to do the regedit in the posts above. Set a System Restore point first: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you will wait to choose if I resolved your problem, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
