Hey I've been having this issue recently where an application (Sea of Thieves) won't launch. I click on the desktop shortcut to open the game but it immediately closes, does anyone know how to fix this?

    Hello,

I'm your Independent Advisor for today. I know this can be frustrating, but don't worry. I'll help you figure this out.

Please answer the following questions so we have a better idea of what might be happening:

    1. Were there any recent changes to the PC (i.e., installed Windows Updates and drivers, changed certain settings, etc.)
    2. What's the PC make and model?
    3. Are other apps/games affected by the same problem?

Any information you provide will greatly help us in resolving this concern.

In the meantime, please start the PC in a clean boot state to check if there are other background apps which might be causing the issue:

    1. Right-click the Windows button > Select Run
    2. Type in "msconfig" without the quotes, then click OK.
    3. On the General tab, select Selective Startup. Then untick "Load startup items".
    4. On the Services tab, click "Hide all Microsoft services".
    5. Click "Disable all".
    6. On the Startup tab, click "Open Task Manager". A Task Manager window should open.
    7. Disable all startup items. You can also choose which startup items to disable, as certain devices might now work properly if the startup item related to it is disabled.
    8. Go back to your System Configuration window.
    9. Click Apply > OK
    10. Click "Restart" when prompted.

Once the PC goes back up, try running the game and see if it works.

    Please reply whatever the results.

That's fine. Some antivirus apps stick when you try to disable them. You can continue with your Avast antivirus on and check if the app will start.
