Having trouble playing avi files from car cam

i have taken memory card from my car cam and copied to my computer but they will not play in windows media player saying 

it does not have right codec i am new to the computer and do not know what that means.

    I am a seasoned Windows expert with almost a decade in usage and support experience and hope to resolve your problems quickly.

    Try downloading vlc here, install it, and play it with vlc. Vlc supports a wide range of codecs.
