Good day everyone,

While attempting to free up some space on my computer I discovered I have a 13GB hibernation file. I do not use hibernation and simply power down my machine. My question is whether or not this file/function is used for some other purpose, or if it is safe to remove/disable hibernation if do not plan to hibernate my computer.

    Hi David

Click your Start Button, then just type cmd

From the resulting dialog, right click Command Prompt and choose 'Run as Administrator'

Paste this into Command Prompt and hit Enter

    powercfg.exe -h off

When that completes, close Command Prompt

That Hiberfile.sys should then be gone, if it is not, restart your PC . .

You can disable hibernation and reclaim the space without harming anything.

Thank you very much. My concern was windows seem to have a lot more functions like opening apps that were open before shutting down and don't know where that information is stored. I appreciate your time.
