Unable to Install ANY new fonts on Windows 10
I'm unable to install any new fonts on my Windows 10 machine.
I follow the usual procedure: download the fonts, they're in a zip folder, unzip them, then rightclick and select "Install" or "Install for All Users." When I do this I get a popup saying:
"The 'NewFont' font is already installed. Do you want to replace it?"
(The font is not, in fact, already installed. I just downloaded it.)
I click "yes" but nothing happens. The font does not appear in the Windows Fonts folder, and can't be accessed in any other application like Word or Illustrator.
I googled around for a solution, but none work. I've seen people having this problem as far back as 2013 and it appears to be a bug in Windows.
Is Microsoft going to get around to fixing this, or will I just have to live with the fonts I have?

2020-03-21T03:54:21+00:00 Hi mpoppe,
Got it, thanks. Now, I tried to replicate your issue but could not & we've previously found out that Windows Updates are not the cause either, which means the issue is isolated in your PC. Try a quick fix workaround by manually drag and drop those TTF font files to the "C:\Windows\Fonts" folder. Do not open the Fonts folder, just drop it on the Fonts folder from C:\Windows.
If that won't work, then let's identify where the problem is by following the steps below one-by-one & test install every after execution.
- Let's see which part of security that could have blocked the install.
a. Disable UAC by selecting "Never notify". Then test install the fonts.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/975787...
b.If it fails (as strange as it sounds), kindly exclude the "C:\Windows\Fonts" folder & "C:\Windows\System32\fontview.exe" from both of Windows Defender's "Exclusion" & "Controlled folder access". Then test install the fonts.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/402848...
c. If it fails, disable firewall/anti-virus/anti-malware apps. Then test install the fonts.
• For Windows Defender Firewall, here's how to turn off.

• For Windows Defender Anti-virus/Anti-malware, here's how to turn off.

- Let's see if you have a corrupted Windows User Profile.
If step 1 above fails, temporarily enable the built-in Admin User & login as that user. Then test install the fonts.

- Let's see if it's an OS system file issue.
If step 2 above fails, reboot your PC to Safe Mode & test install the fonts.

• If it fails, send me a file sample or give me the link to download (if it's a free font)
• If it passes, then let's restore your OS by either performing the "Reset your PC > Keep Files/Apps" or "Installation Media" option.

I hope this helps. Let me know how you go. Thank you!

A system restore also had no effect.
