Error code 0xc000000d

I have the following error message on my Dell Windows 10 (upgraded from Windows 7) laptop: Boot configuration data file is missing some required information File\Boot\BCD Error code 0xc000000d. I think it may have happened as a result of being powered down during a Windows update.

I have read a number of posts but am not clear if this is definitely a Windows error or a hardware error. The system diagnostics seem to show a hard drive error but I have been able to copy all my data off the drive using a hard drive docking station connected to another computer so the hard drive does still work. Is it likely the laptop can be fixed?
