How to buy just a Windows 10 home key?

Hi guys,

I already have Windows 10 home installed, and don't want to re-install it, all I'm wanting is a key to make my Windows genuine.

I thought about buying https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/windows-10-home/d76qx4bznwk4?activetab=pivot%3aoverviewtab but it says it's an install onto a USB. I'm not trying to install windows or upgrade, I'm just wanting to make my current version genuine. How do I go about literally just buying a key?

P.S. I had a previous key, several years ago when I bought my pre-built PC but lost it after having my mobo and CPU upgraded.

Thanks

I may have found another solution besides buying another key:

Go to Settings > Update & Security > then go to Activation. Wait for it to load and click “Troubleshoot.” When troubleshooting has completed, click the “I changed hardware on this device recently” link. Find the device from the list and check the box “This is the device I’m using right now.” Click “Activate” to the right of that link.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Hello and thank you for contacting us. My name is Angelo and I am an Independent Adviser on here.

You are on the correct website to buy a genuine copy of Windows 10 Home.

After you buy the licence a unique licence code will be sent to you and it will also be connected with the Microsoft account that you buy it with

    Regards

    Angelo

    Hello,

If your PC is running Windows 10, you have a genuine edition of Windows.

Check out this link for more info: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10749/windows-10-find-product-key

Your product key is saved to your device, so if you reset it, it should still work.

If you want to find your product key do the following:

    1. Run Command Prompt as an administrator (search CMD in the search box, right click on “Command Prompt,” and click “Run as administrator”).
    2. Type in/copy this command: wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKeyand hit enter.

Underneath what you just typed in, their should be a message saying “OA3xOriginalProductKey

XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.” Where the X letters are will be your product key. Write it down on paper, but do not share it with anyone.

If you want to transfer the key to another computer, read this article: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.groovypost.com/howto/transfer-windows-10-license-new-pc/amp/

I hope this answers your question. If you need further assistance, don’t hesitate to ask.

Sorry that my response was not helpful.

If you just want to spend $100+ without trying to get your product key back, and you have a version of Windows that is not activated, go to Settings> Update & Security> Activation and click "Go to store." This will take you to the Microsoft store were you should be able to buy a product key. You will probably have to sign in. However, once you have activated it, you can sign out or reset the PC. The key should be saved to the PC, but just in case, write it down.

If you don't like this suggestion, go to Microsoft to see if you can get help recovering your key: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/

If you have a second older PC (Windows 7 or 8), you can upgrade it to Windows 10 for free which will switch the product key to a Windows 10 product key. You can then remove it to use it on another device with the instructions in this guide: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/transfer-windows-10-license-new-pc/

You could also buy it from Microsoft online at: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/b/windows?activetab=tab%3ashopwindows10. This has to be re-installed. This is about an hour long process. Since you upgraded some PC parts, it should go by faster.

Hello and thank you for contacting us. My name is Angelo and I am an Independent Adviser on here.

I understand but you will always need an account to buy anything anywhere online.

What I meant was that when you buy the Windows 10 Home licence on the Microsoft website the purchase will always stay on that account that you did the purchase with.

You will receive your product key and if you only want to have a local account, that is fine.

If you want to buy and use that key for a family member or friend, that is fine.

I hope this is the answer you were looking for.

    Regards

    Angelo
