Hi,

I use windows 10 and have a dell  Inspiron 3670 computer.  When I type jpg in the task bar next to the  windows logo a list of .jpg files comes up.  If I click  on  one of them the picture shows up.  My grand daughter sometimes uses my computer.  How do I delete this list.  One method I used in the past was to go to setting,  then click on personalize.  then click on start.  Then I turn off show recently open items in jump list, etc.  Now when I do this it has no effect.  I have tried turning off my computer and turning it back on and this does not work.  Thanks for listening.

Thank you.  I tried all of these and none of them worked.  I contacted Dell support and I learned that your computer collects all files you have opened and if you type, for example, a file extension like jpg the computer shows all the files you have opened.  This means you have no privacy.  Anyone who has access to your computer can view every file you have looked at or worked on.  The tech support at Dell said this can not be deleted or turned off.

I consider this extremely serious and I think every user of windows 10 should be advised of this.

    Hi treborpowers,

I am Paulo, an Independent Advisor. Thank you for reaching out.

To delete recent files in search bar, just got to Settings> Privacy> Activity History. Scroll down to Clear activity history then hit Clear and OK.

I hope this helps with your concern.

    Hi treborpowers,

In this case, you could try these:

    Method 1

    1. Settings> Privacy> Activity History
    2. Uncheck "Store my activity history on this device" and "Send activity history to Microsoft"
    3. Choose on Clear again under History

    Method 2

    1. Settings> Search> History
    2. Turn off then Clear device history

    Method 3

    1. Open This PC then click on View Tab
    2. Click on Options
    3. Uncheck "Show recently used files.." and "Show frequently used folders" under Privacy
    4. Click on Clear

    Hi treborpowers,

The instruction I gave should be able to delete your recent searched files displaying on your Search and Quick Access but not entirely on your hard drive. If it is saved on your PC and you searched again, you'll be able to see those files but it won't display on your recent activity anymore. If you don't want someone to see your files, I suggest you should create a separate account for others like guests and put a password on your account for Privacy.

Thanks for you  speedy reply.  I did as  you described and the computer took a while to clear the history.  When I tried entering jpg the pictures came up again. I turner off my computer and restarted and the pictures where still there.  I again repeated your suggestion.  This time  it was fast.  But the pictures were still there.  I think the problem may have started with a recent update of windows 10.   I do not think this was a problem a month ago.  Thanks again.
