How can I fix Error 0x80010135: Path too long

On Windows 10 64 Home - When I right click on a zipped file and choose Extract All... I sometimes get Error 0x80010135: **Path too long.**How can I fix Error 0x80010135Path too long when opening a zip file?  I am unable to "shorten the name" until it is unzipped so that does not seem to be an option I can use to fix this problem.  My only choices are Try Again, Skip, Cancel - all of which will result in me losing data from the zip file.

If I need to use another application to unzip the file, could you provide a link that you know is safe?

I'm not particularly "computer literate", so I would need specific steps.

Thank you for your help

    Hi Amma,

you may rename all upper folders to a shorter names or create in root folder new folder with very short name e.g. Zips, copy zip file to this folder and unpack it.

This occur because of limit for full file name length including all folders from a root one.

Thank you Igor!  I don't really know how to do what you are telling me to do.  Right click on the zipped folder doesn't give me an option to rename any folders (zipped or not).  I did discover a "work-around" - I open a new fold in another window.  Then, I click on the zipped file and it shows me the content files in what seems to be an unizpped form - although I cannot see the files inside these folders.  From there, I drag and drop the seemingly unzipped folders to the folder I created in a new window and then I can see the contents.  I understand this is not a problem for MAC computers and hope that Microsoft will work to correct this problem for PCs.

Thank you again for your help.
