Asus Q503UA - Touchscreen No longer works after full restore

Anonymous

I've done all kinds of searches and research. All to no avail. Here are the details:

  • The screen was working fine before the full restore.
  • On device manager it only shows the HID touch screen "ghosted".
  • It says it is the latest driver.
  • It says I don't have a touchscreen installed, that I should disconnect and reconnect it again (Really?)

I've already gone in the BIOS and used the F9 function and saved it, and nothing.

I know this is an older laptop, but still, it was working & is working fine, except for losing the touch screen function.

Any ideas?

    Hi,

I didn't get much help from these boards, as you can see. Out of frustration I did a lot of things to the laptop that somehow got the touchscreen working again. There was one thing I did that I will never forget. I opened the laptop to replace the battery, and out of curiosity I disconnected and reconnected the screen to the motherboard connection. Did that do the trick? I don't know, but right after I re-started the computer, the touchscreen started working again. Ironically, now the Asus Flip-Lock for the screen does not work, but I don't care much for that.

Sorry I can't be of much help

Did you fix your issue? I have the same problem. What was the fix?

    Thanks for your reply.

Thats really  useful info, i had a similar situation: I replaced the screen with a new unit, it was after I disconnected the old screen and connected the new one that the problem occured. Device manager gave an error code 45 and could not see that a touch screen was connected. I did disconnect and reconnect the screen plug but no luck.

The HID compliant touch screen device was a ghost/hidden device in device manager.

I uninstalled that driver, probably a mistake as im now trying to manually re-install a touch screen driver.

I usually find if you persist with these things you can fix eventually, but its a PITA

    Cheers

    Good day,

Thanks for the reply. I'll get to it right away:

    1.       It was a full system restore, without clearing the TPM. Using "Settings, Update & Security, Recovery, Reset this PC, Remove Everything". This was done because I was taking over the laptop from one of my daughters, and I wanted as clean as an install as I could get.

    2.       Right after doing that, the touch screen didn't work again.

    3.       After that, I upgraded the laptop from the slow "spinner" HDD to an SSD. A very basic plug and play process that has nothing to do with the touch screen, which was no longer working anyway after the "restore". No one, and I mean, nobody else has touched the computer internals since it was purchased as new equipment. The laptop's reliability has been excellent.

    4.       Windows Build = Version1909 (OS Build 18363.535)

    5.       BIOS Vendor = American Megatrends, Version 206, GOP Version = 9.0.1031, EC Version = YGSL0600, with the "SMART Settings" set to "Enabled".

    6.       Yes, by ghosted I mean I have to click on "Show Hidden Devices".

    7.       HID-compliant touch screen properties:

    1.       General Tab

    1.       Device Type: Human Interface Devices

    2.       Manufacturer: (Standard system devices)

    3.       Location: on USB Input Device

    4.       Device Status: Currently this hardware device is not connected to the computer (Code 45). To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer.

    2.       Events Tab:

    1.       12/8/2019 4:15:56 AM Device Migrated

    2.       12/8/2019 4:15:56 AM Device Configured (input inf)

    3.       12/8/2019 4:15:56 AM Device started

    6.       Present: true

    8.       HID-Compliant touch screen driver:

    1.       Driver Provider: Microsoft

    2.       Driver Date: 6/21/2006

    3.       Driver Version: 10.0.18362.175

    9.       I've done the "Update Driver" to no avail. It says the latest driver is already installed. As far as I know, nothing is disabled, and I haven't changed anything.

    10.    I did the Intel Integrated Sensor Solution from the "Others" as per your recommendation and it didn't make a difference.

I believe I gave you as much information as I could. Did I miss anything?

    Thank you

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that the Touchscreen for your laptop is not working. I’ll help you with the issue.

    However, please let us know:

    • When you say, “Touchscreen No longer works after full restore” did you perform a factory reset or a system restore?
    • When you say, “On device manager it only shows the HID touch screen "ghosted".” do you see the HID touch screen device as a hidden device?
    • Do you see any error message/code for the touch screen device in Device Manager?
    • Are you aware of any changes made to the computer recently?
    • Which build version of Windows 10 is installed on the computer? To check type: winver in the search bar on the Taskbar and hit Enter.

If you see the HID touch screen device as a hidden device, I would suggest you to try updating the drivers for the device. To update the drivers, right click on the device and select Update Driver. Also, make sure that there are no disabled devices in Device Manager. If you find any, please enable it and check.

In the computer manufacturer website (under Others), I see that there is an Intel Integrated Sensor Solution available, you may want to try downloading it and check if that helps.

I also see there is a BIOS update available in the computer manufacturer’s website. You may also want to check the BIOS update. However, we recommend that you check with your motherboard manufacturer regarding BIOS update.

Note: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Let us know how it goes.
