Microphone and Webcam Access

Hello!

My thoughts are with everyone.

I am trying to get prepped for online classes, and I am having MAJOR issues with my webcam and microphone.

On Google Meet, Google Hangouts, Zoom, etc. the microphone and webcam connect, but my computer then tells me that they don't work. My camera works when using the camera app on my Dell machine, and my microphone works with Voice Recorder. My webcam also worked with TeamViewer, a downloaded application.

I have allowed Google Chrome permissions to use my microphone and webcam, and my microsoft settings have the same thing.

The weirdest part of this all is that EVERYTHING works for my admin account on my laptop and on another device. My personal user account (associated with Office 365) is the one where nothing will work!

I have restarted my computer several times, and done the testing described above. Based on all of it, it seems like it's a user permissions problem, but then again I have no idea!

If anyone has any ideas of how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Julia McElhinny

I understand. Rest assured that I really try to put the best of my knowledge at your disposal ;)

    We can try another fix:

Camera and microphone do not work while I am logged in with my O365 user account.

We will set your O365 user account as a new administrator account:

    • Under Settings > Accounts > Family & other users, select the account owner name, then select Change account type.
    • Under Account type, select Administrator and OK.

    Sidney -

Recapping my original post : Dell laptop, Windows 10.

I have two accounts that I use on this machine: a local administrative account that I use only as necessary and my O365 user account which I use constantly.

I must now get collaboration products up and running for e-learning.

Camera and microphone do not work while I am logged in with my O365 user account.

Camera and microphone DO work while logged in using local administrative user account.

Both camera and microphone switches are turned on.

I tested my O365 user account on a totally different Win10 MS Surface Pro and it worked perfectly.

I agree that it seems like my O365 account doesn't have the permissions it needs, but all of the switches that I have checked are enabled but neither device will work.  During a group test, I had to Facetime with one meeting participant via iPhone and could not participate effectively. I really need to get this resolved in advance of Monday classes.

    Thank you!

    Julia

This is my computer so no permission required.

Those permission switches are already checked. it's not a privacy issue.

when I look at my microphone it says  requires further installation

      Device INTELAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0295&SUBSYS_103C84C0&REV_1000\4&240f286c&0&0001 requires further installation.

That switch is switched on for both my camera and my microphone!

I haven't had a prior need to use these devices, and now with online learning requirements, I have had to run tests.

The devices work on my local administrative account on my PC, and the devices on other machines work when I log into my Microsoft account. The only problem is with my Microsoft account on my personal PC.

    Thank you!

Hey there-- thanks for getting back. You selected the Camera in the image but I'm dealing with the microphone problem.   I did do the privacy setting. I also deleted the drivers and restarted. I tested it with Cortana and the microphone looks like it's working but the system says there is a problem and it's not working. So not sure what I can do.

    You are welcome !

I understand the interrogations. I really believe that this is a permission problem. Following that guide, did you find the window where you need to check the permission box, on a system level ? This should look like the following screenshot.

My theory is that you do not have enough rights on the second account.

I got another question, did it ever work before ? If yes, we shall be able to revert your computer back to its initial configuration.

    Best,

    Sidney
