Ping 192.168.1.1 General Failure

Hi. I have a problem in one of my computers. It successfully gets IP address from my router and successfully connects to the Internet.

However, it can't detect my network WD drive, and while testing I discovered that it fails even to ping it's own IP address and even my router (168.192.1.1).

Running Windows Diagnostics say "Problems found. Security or firewall settings might be blocking the connection". Again, Internet connection is OK.

Can you help?

Thanks,

-Carmi-

    Thanks Jason.

I followed your instructions and changed the network profile from Public to Private.

I got the same results. No access to network devices.

While doing that, I noticed the "Network reset" option, and tried it.

After doing that, and turning on network discovery, the issue was solved.

Currently the profile is still public (hopping this provides better protection to my PC), but I do have access to all network devices.

Thank you very much for your support!

Thank you CarmiZ for that clarifications.

So to clarify, all the devices are connected to the same network and are able to connect to the Internet individually. And you want to access/connect to these devices through your laptop/notebook. Let us see if the Network Settings in your notebook is set to Private. To do that.

    1. Go to Settings
    2. Network & Internet
    3. In the Status menu, click Change connections properties.
    4. Make sure the Network Profile is set to "Private"
    5. Scroll down in the IP Settings

6 Check if the IP Assignments is set to Automatic(DHCP)

Then close the Settings. And check, and we'll go from there.

Have you purposefully set the IP address to 168.192.1.1 as local networks are usually 192.168.1. etc.

Do you use a fixed IP for the WD drive or rely on DHCP from the router.

Similar situation with the router and all devices are on the same WiFi network 5 Mghz and workgroup. Strange, my Android phone sees it via SMB client. Even my TV sees it as a source.

Sorry, my situation is much more complex: I have advanced Technicolor router which runs SMB and MNLA servers on top of OpenWRT Unix by default and all my devices with SMB and MNLA clients, i.e. laptops, phones, and smart TV with Tizen see these services as separate devices (?). But when Android phone is able to access the router filesystem Windows shows error: Technicolor is not accessible ... The remote procedure failed and can't be executed. I.e. only Unix -like based SMB clients are interoperable but not Windows 10.

Hi CarmiZ, I'm Jayson and I'm here to assist you.

I would like to ask for some additional information in order to fully understand the situation.

As I understood, you have a WD Drive that you want to connect to? Is it a NAS storage? Can you give the model of the device?

Your PC is connecting to the router and internet normally and there's no issue on that one, but it can't connect to the WD drive?

How is your PC connected to the network, through Wifi or cable?
