Windows 10 can't control volume with Galaxy Buds connected

So I got my galaxy buds a few weeks ago. There are no connectivity issues with them. They will connect to my surface laptop 2, no problem, but when I try to adjust the volume, the slider will move but the volume doesn't actually change. I've read many forums, contacted Samsung (to which it was stated that there was no solution and I was told to contact Microsoft), contacted Microsoft (where they told me it was an issue regarding Samsung's drivers), and messed around with it on my own.

When I went into my output devices I have noticed that it comes up as two different devices. One is stereo and the other is handsfree audio. I played around with enabling and disabling them and at one point I was able to adjust the volume! But then it went back to this issue and I have no idea what I can do. Please help!! I've also posted this on Samsung's forums but I have gotten no response.

    But are they loud enough?

Because after I made this registry change, the volume was way too quiet :/

I found a solution yes, after you change the registry to allow volume control.

To increase your max volume from your galaxy buds:

    1. Connect the galaxy buds to your phone again
    2. Open the Galaxy wearable app and Galaxy buds settings
    3. Scroll all the way down and open "Touchpad settings"
    4. Set the Left touchpad to "Volume down" and the Right touchpad to "Volume up"
    5. Connect your Galaxy buds to your Windows device again
    6. Hold the right touch pad down on the buds to start increasing your volume  (I suggest you keep your computer volume low at like 5-10 when doing this cause this could get loud)

Your galaxy buds should now be adjusted to higher volume, you only have to do this once.

I finally found a solution on a different Microsoft Answers post: Bluetooth Volume broken after Windows 10 1803 update

The volume controls now work again with my Galaxy Earbuds, but they seem a bit quieter overall. :|

I was having the same problem with my HP Pavilion so I tried all the same steps as you, but had no luck and I found that volume control was stuck on 20 for some reason. I tried resetting my Galaxy Buds from my phone and that worked temporarily then stopped.

I then restarted my laptop as I never really turn it off - and that worked instantly, I can now turn up and down the volume for my Galaxy buds using the volume keys on my keyboard. Try turning your laptop on, then restart it and check if the volume keys are working. It would also be a good idea to restart your laptop every once in a while to prevent bugs like this in future.

Editing the registry allowed me to adjust the volume, but it was too quiet (as stated in other replies). I noticed in Control Panel > Sound, that there was both a Galaxy Buds "Headphones", and a Galaxy Buds "Headset." I switched the default device from "Headphones" to "Headset" and then it was much louder and I still had volume control.

Hi! I'm so glad that worked for you. Unfortunately, I've tried that, and I regularly update and restart my laptop. I've more recently contacted samsung again and was told to "just enjoy the best of the buds on your mobile samsung device, as we cannot guarantee that the product works with windows". To which I responded asking if the only thing I can do is wait for an update, and the agent replied confirming that.

I also checked all drivers and made sure they were updated and they are. The only type of error that I found is when I go into the device manager and look at the properties, both listed devices for the buds have an error that says "device not migrated" after it sets up and connects. Idk if that helps with this at all, but yeah, that's what I have. If samsung or microsoft does not com up with an update to fix the issue, I will be returning them.
