I was printing on my HP Color LaserJet MFP M281fdw when it stopped. I got an error message that said the toner levels were not communicating with the computer. The toners are nearly full to I re-seated them but I still get the messages. What could be wrong.

Thanks for providing the images. This is actually a fault with the printer itself and therefore not something that can be fixed in Windows, however I have found the following support article on the HP website which covers this issue:

    https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-color-l...

See the section for the error "10.010X Supply memory error or Supply Problem"

If you've tried the steps suggested in the article then you'll need to contact HP support directly (details in the article) and they should be able to help.

No problem, in that case next I would recommend to follow Step 3 in this support guide to uninstall and reinstall the printer on your computer: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/401540...

If that still doesn't resolve the issue please can you provide that exact error text that appears with any error codes and a screen shot of the message if possible.

I tried what you suggested and it still is not working. Anything else you can think of?

Hi Katherine, I'm Steve, an Independent Advisor and a Windows user like you. I'm happy to help with your query.

Having your printer stop working definitely isn't ideal. If you haven't done so already the first thing to try is to power the printer off then on again to force it to restart. Then run the Windows printer troubleshooter by going to Start > Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners > select the printer from the list > Manage > Run the troubleshooter. This should automatically detect and advise how to resolve the issue with your printer.

Please let me know if this helps or if I can be of any further assistance!
