Trying to mirror my qn55Q8camfxzc  Samsung TV (2018)  with my all in one HP computer (Windows 10) and unable to accomplish to which ill get to the bottom thereof. (Windows devices recognizes the TV but doesn't connect) Understand when accomplished that computer keyboard function will project images / files onto TV. However as my TV is in another location totally away from the computer, this makes the mirroring process rather awkward if not silly as I would want navigation control at the TV location. Is there a process / connection set up that would allow to navigate images / files at the TV location? Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi larrylastiwka,

I am an independent advisor and a Microsoft user like you, and I would be happy to help you out with this.

You can have the exact same display on the PC as the TV - I think this would be the best given that the TV is far away from the computer.

You can press Windows key + P on the keyboard, and it should bring up 4 options.

"Duplicate" is the option that will allow you to project exactly what is on your PC on the TV.

"Extend" is useful for things like PowerPoint presentations, that has a separate Presenter View that would be displayed on the PC, while the TV would be used to show the actual presentation (without any extra notes or annotations).

I hope this has helped you. If you have any questions about this, please reply and let us know and we would be happy to help!

    Regards,

Thanks again Ashton. I made good progress on the connectivity end by doing a reset on my TV which resulted with a TV icon being displayed on my source menu on the TV. I clicked on it and the TV displayed  three major icons, one for pictures, videos, and music. Found this point interesting as it was obviously mirroring the PC showing these icons but not what I assumed should be the PC desk top which then would allow me to navigate to the PHOTO file etc.  Consider as well after the TV reset, I did not have to refer to the  "add a device" process to connect. The  TV icon just appeared?? Oddly enough this is my primary goal having these three features available for TV viewing from the PC, so I'm not totally interested in having the desk top appear on the TV but it would be nice. I say this because when I tested the Bluetooth strength of the mouse, it was still moving on the  PC screen as witnessed by my wife when I took it to the basement level in front of the TV.

Still curious to know why the three icons appeared as opposed to the desktop not appearing? Also music files keep showing error messages and would not play. All the pictures appear to be OK, however when they are accessed via the PHOTO file in Windows or via File Explorer via the PC , both pictures and videos are grouped together and videos are identified by a the elapsed time being posted for easy ID. This is not the case when pictures are viewed via the TV. Its only pictures and  you have to go the the video file to see them. Not so much a big deal, but it appears there might be something lost here because I was looking for a particular video via the TV and found it  under FOLDERS within PICTURES  with a name I had  given it. It wouldn't play under this (says its empty) and i couldn't find it in  the video TV file either, only found it  in PHOTOS & File EXPLORER when using the PC and of course it plays. Anything you can advise of this would be of help. I know its a lot of mumbo jumbo but it would be appreciated. Thanks again.

    Hi Larry,

Sorry I think I misunderstood the way you are connecting - if you are using a Miracast capable device (which I believe your Samsung TV may be using), when you click Windows/P you can choose "Connect to a wireless display" and this should show your PC screen on the TV.

As Resourceful has mentioned above, a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse would be handy to have at the TV location, and as long as they can see your PC then you could control it from there. The distance should be OK depending on the class (1, 2, or 3) of the Bluetooth devices - eg Class 2 only gives 33 feet or range at 2.5mW, and this is going to be less with anything like building materials (especially metal) in the way.

    I hope this helps!

Hello. Yes, a Bluetooth or wireless keyboard/mouse can be used to control the PC while looking at the TV. Your connection issue could be proximity to TV (line of sight preferable) or firewall related. Can the TV see the PC?

Thank you for your reply, however tried your connection( Windows/P Duplicate) and was not able to connect. Checked with Samsung and TV ( Q8    OLED 2018 ) is capable  of mirroring and firm ware is up to date. At this point the connection is somewhat secondary and once established I still need to know the following. Seeing the PC and TV are on different floor levels and once the connection is established ( hoping this isn't the reason for the connection misfire) , how then do you navigate the PC desktop  that appears on the TV? It would regressive to go back upstairs and work the PC keyboard  to select files when the obvious would be to do it from same TV location. To give you a better idea of what my original intent is I would want to view all my pictures and videos from the  PHOTO file  in Windows onto the TV which is at the other location (downstairs).

    That is essentially my question.

    PS

Would a  Bluetooth booster to power my keyboard and mouse be the answer working from the TV location? The distance  as the crow flies is less than 25 feet but between floor levels (bilevel home). Hoping either this or some other means is viable as it would be of no interest to me if it wasn't. I'd continue to load flash drives from my PC Photo file and view  direct onto the TV. Thanks again, if we can over come the above issue, Id  like to work with you in trying to de-bug the connection issue. Thank you..

    Larry
