I've been wanting to play Skyrim for some days now but my computer says that the d3dx9_42.dll file couldn't be found and that I should try restarting the program. I did that and tried restarting the DirectX program but nothing. I even tried downloading the file and placing it in the Skyrim folder. Still nothing.

    Hello

I am Sidney, an independent Microsoft expert, and also a customer just like you. I will try to help you resolving your issue.

This missing library (dll file) is due to a critical component of DirextX that is missing.

In order to resolve this issue, I invite you to reinstall DirectX., it will fix it. In order to install DirectX, please download it from there and follow the installation procedure:

    Hi,

This file is part of DirectX Runtime June 2010, which is a optional update that a lot of games need.

I will include a link to the full installer... This is a self extracting package. It will extract after double clicking on it so be sure to note the location where you\it extracted.

Then open the folder and double click DXSETUP.
