DVD drive missing from File Explorer

After downloading an App, my( D:) DVD drive showed the app in the drive when I keyed on it. There was NO media in the drive. I pressed the eject button and the drive D: disappeared from the drive list. Device Manager shows the drive present and operating correctly with no error symbol. I can read the media when loaded into the drive, so It seems to be working properly, just missing from the File Explorer. The drive is not shown in the Boot menu in the BIOS. I tried uninstalling the driver with no effect. Can I just reassign the drive letter in Disk Management to D: ?

Problem solved (sort of). I discovered that my CD/RAM drive (D:/) appears in my Explorer File and BIOs ONLY when there is media present in the drive. The drive is hard wired into my computer and not via USB. I can live with that.  In the past D:/  always appeared whether media was present or not.  My fear was that I would not be able to boot from the drive if missing from BIOS.

    Thanks for the help.

The panel to the left in Disk management shows " CD-ROM 0 with the new drive letter underneath but File Explore still does not list the drive. The panel to the right in Disk Management is blank.

Hello, my name is Joshua Thank you for posting your question, and I would be more than happy to assist you today.

You may reassign a new drive letter for the icon to reappear: (Letter that you will assign should not be the same to other active hard drives).

    1. Open the "Disk Management".
    2. On the right side, right-click on the CD/DVD ROM drive, select "Change drive letter and paths".
    3. Click "Add" then mark "Assign the following drive letter" and assign a new drive letter next to it.
    4. Click on "OK". Close the "Disk Management" refresh the desktop screen and check the File Explorer if the CD/DVD drive has a new drive letter.

If you have further questions please do not hesitate to reply back.

    Have a great day!

    Regards,

    Joshua

Wow? It will take me awhile to work through this, so don't think that I don't appreciate it if it takes me a couple of days. 👍
