Disable UAC using the registry

The instructions are as follows:

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Policies > System. On the right pane find the EnableLUA. Right-click on it and select Modify.  Set the DWORD value data to 0, and then click OK.

Using Modify as instructed, it fails with the following error message:

     Error Editing Value

Cannot edit EnableLUA:  Error writing the value's new contents.

    Hi JohnShoberWilliams

you need to run the registry editor as an administrator

    click start, type regedit

select the registry editor from the results and click run as administrator.

    try the edit again

if you still get an error we may have to look at the permissions of the system key

right click on system and select permissions, let me know what permissions administrators have.
