So i'm suspecting there's some kinda malware on my computer and I wanna run a anti virus full system scan. Would it be safe to let a full system scan run overnight while I sleep? Power settings are set to never for when the computer will sleep after certain time of inactivity and my AV will shutdown my computer after scan ends.

    Hello!

I'm your Independent Advisor for today. Let's figure this out and come up with a solution.

I don't think a thorough scan with your antivirus software done overnight should be a problem.

You can also clean up your PC by following the steps below:

    1. Follow the steps here to boot in a clean boot state to disable non-Microsoft apps running at startup:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135...

    1. Run an anti-rootkit scanner. I personally use TDSSKiller from Kaspersky:

    1. Run your antivirus software. If possible, start a thorough scan. I personally use ESET Online Scanner, but you can use what you have:

    https://www.eset.com/us/home/online-scanner/

    1. Reset your browser. Kindly check the settings of your browser to reset it to defaults.
    2. Uninstall apps you no longer need or suspicious apps by following these steps:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-ph/help/402805...

    1. Install Windows Updates. Updates keep your PC secure and up-to-date.

Kindly check if the problems persist after doing the above.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, malware scanning takes time especially when you have a lot of data on your computer.

It's best to follow the steps above in a clean boot state. That will help you determine if there are apps causing the performance problems you're encountering.

Can I run TDSSKiller while not in a clean boot state?

    Edit:

So my situation right now is that I removed some malware from my computer using Malwarebytes a few days ago, after that I started becoming extremely paranoid and kept running scans everyday with nothing at all. I think I may have malware but there's really no symptoms besides my computer being semi slow (not really on my user account for the most part). I have noticed that there are many svchost processes running in task manager and i'm usually averaging at 40% memory usage while idle. I've checked through many processes using a lot of memory in task manager and most are located in the file locations of apps I installed or system32 files.
