Were there changes made on the computer prior to having this issue?
Please check Windows Updates if there are pending updates for the pointing devices driver.
It's also possible that the mouse driver needs to be updated. So, you may go to Device Manager and update or uninstall the current driver.
Right click on Start button then select Device Manager. On Device Manager window, expand the mice and other pointing devices. Right click on the driver then select Update Driver. You may also try to uninstall it. Reboot the machine and see if that makes any difference.
