    Justpure Francis.

Thanks for your  effort and time.

Try as I may I couldn't get it to work.

My internet provider was useless they won't even

    discuss Vista.

    I'm going to use Thunderbird.

Hopefully others who were following this query

got the benefit of your knowledge .

    Thanks

trying to change windows mail account to IMap.unable to receive mail

Is it Gmail? If so, try this.

Double-check your IMAP and SMTP servers and ports are correct.

    Start Windows Mail.

On the menu bar, click Tools>Accounts....

Select your mail account and click Properties.

In the Servers tab, make sure this information is what you have.

       Server Information:

My incoming mail server is a IMAP server.

    *Incoming mail (IMAP):*imap.gmail.com

    Outg *oing mail (SMTP):*smtp.gmail.com

        Incoming mail server:

Make sure the e-mail username is the bit in your email address before the @.

Go to the Advanced tab and see if this information is correct.

Check *This server requires a secure connection (SSL)*for both the IMAP and SMTP server.

By default, when these are checked, the IMAP port should change to 993 and the SMTP port to 25. However, to use Gmail, you must change the SMTP port to 465.

If this information is correct, you must change something in your Google Account.

Go to myaccount.google.com/lesssecureapps and make sure Allow less secure appsis turned on. Then test your mail by sending a message to yourself. If Google sends you a critical security warning, ignore it because you were the one who turned less secure apps on.

    I hope this helps.

trying to change windows mail account to IMap.unable to receive mail

Windows Mail for Vista is unsupported and no updates.

    Try Thunderbird email with Mozilla.

I just imported it yesterday to my very old Toshiba laptop.

It works like a charm. Laptop back in action.

Hasn't been in use for  years.
