    The fastest ways in my experience are physically: removing the ethernet cord or internet card on your pc, turning off the router/modem, or shutting off the system completely. 

    Apart from that, to do it on the system itself, you navigate to Start > Device Manager > Network adapters, find your adapter, and disable. This will stop the device from working until enabled at the same place.

    I do that by pressing the power button on the back of my router.
