How can I share a WiFi connection to another computer via direct ethernet cable?

Hello

I have a very specific problem with a temporary setup that cannot be changed right now, and I was hoping a kind soul would be able to help me.

I have a laptop and a desktop, both running latest Windows 10. The laptop can connect to a WiFi network, but the desktop cannot. I do not have access to a switch or a router.

I have been sharing the WiFi connection to the desktop via an ethernet cable, by opening up Network Connections, then opening Properties on the WiFi connection, and then sharing the WiFi connection under the Share tab by selecting the checkbox.

This worked fine for a few days, but I needed to do stuff on the laptop, and I shutdown and rebooted it.

Now, no matter what I do, this solution no longer works.

What am I doing wrong? Perhaps a kind person can help me?

Earlier I also don't have that drop down.

I did connect my phone using a USB cable (charger cable) and turn on USB Tethering on my phone and it created a new Network Connections. Then I checked the original WiFi adapter and the drop down is back. Try the old 3G USB Dongle as well and as soon as a new network connection showed, try the original WiFi adapter and see if the drop down is back.

The options you showed are not identical to mine, for some reason.

    This is what I did.

    1. Opened network connections, and selected the wifi connection (You can see I have already plugged in the ethernet cable):

    1. Select Properties:

    1. Under the Share tab, I enabled sharing:

As you can see, I have no drop-down menu like you do....

Okay if your Laptop is connected through a WiFi, do the same procedure however instead of choosing the LAN or Ethernet, select WLAN or WiFi and then Right click and select Properties > Click Sharing > Select Allow other network users to connect blah blah blah .... and then select the private network connection which is LAN > Hit OK

    Hello

I have an ancient 3G WiFi dongle that cannot (any more, due to age) be connected via USB. The laptop connects via standard WiFi. It is my only internet connection at the moment, and will likely be for the next 2 weeks, maybe even for a month.

    Hi flashmash1,

My name is Lee and I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Just to confirm, how do you get internet access from your Laptop? Is it trough a USB WiFi stick or any USB Tethering device such as smartphone?

If so, kindly check this settings:

Control Panel > Network & Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings > Choose the active Ethernet connection (this is your USB Stick network) > Right click and select Properties > Click Sharing > Select Allow other network users to connect blah blah blah .... and then select the private network connection which is LAN > Hit OK

If my suggestion did not solve the issue, please reply back so we can try other step.

    Kind Regards,
