Windows 10 logon very slow (PC)

Hello,

since March 13th the Windows logon takes very long (between 15 and 40 seconds) Before that the logon always took about 5 seconds. I take these values from the event viewer, here are some excerpts from the last days:

<Data Name="MainPathBootTime">20443</Data>

<Data Name="MainPathBootTime">32307</Data>

<Data Name="MainPathBootTime">36160</Data>

And this is what it looked like before March 13th:

<Data Name="MainPathBootTime">5957</Data>

<Data Name="MainPathBootTime">5975</Data>

<Data Name="MainPathBootTime">5968</Data>

I have no special software installed. When exactly updates were installed, I can't say, because they are automated. I only know that it is a relatively fresh Windows 10 installation (about 2-3 months old). Since the day of the Windows installation I use version 1909.

I don't go to any dubious websites, I don't have any dubious software installed and I have already scanned the system with Defender. I have also read other similar questions on this platform here and followed the following steps:

  1. sfc /scannow executed as admin. Everything is okay.
  2. Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth executed, also everything okay.
  3. I checked the autostart programs. Includes only the following applications/services: Google Drive, Equalizer APO, Windows Security Notification Icon
  4. Checked and installed latest Windows updates manually (I am up to date)
  5. Removed all connected devices except keyboard to test if this is the problem. Only with the keyboard connected the problem is still there

What I find interesting: I also created a second local User account on Windows and booted it up. It takes about 0.5 seconds to boot it up. So I think my main profile is corrupt or something?

What else could be considered? The hardware has not changed. These are my specs:

  • Intel Core i7 7700K
  • GTX 1080
  • PRIME Z270-A
  • 16 GB DDR4
  • Samsung 970 Pro 1 TB

Thanks in advance.

Many greetings

    Hello,

I'm your Independent Advisor for today. I know this can be frustrating, but don't worry. I'm here to figure this out for you.

Please start the PC in a clean boot state in the affected account to check if there are other background apps which might be causing the issue:

    1. Right-click the Windows button > Select Run
    2. Type in "msconfig" without the quotes, then click OK.
    3. On the General tab, select Selective Startup. Then untick "Load startup items".
    4. On the Services tab, click "Hide all Microsoft services".
    5. Click "Disable all".
    6. On the Startup tab, click "Open Task Manager". A Task Manager window should open.
    7. Disable all startup items. You can also choose which startup items to disable, as certain devices might now work properly if the startup item related to it is disabled.
    8. Go back to your System Configuration window.
    9. Click Apply > OK
    10. Click "Restart" when prompted.

Once the PC goes back up, check if it will resolve the issue.

    Please reply whatever the results.

    hi,

Do u have SSD on your device? You answered your own question. You have a corrupt user account. I suggest you be on the new user account. Plus, you are on an older CPU.

Could you try these steps to start the PC in safe mode with networking so we can determine whether a faulty driver is causing the issue?:

    1. On the sign in screen, press and hold down Shift and click the Power button > Select Restart. Don't let go of the Shift key until you see "Choose an option".
    2. On the "Choose an option" screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings
    3. Click Restart.
    4. Press 5 or F5 to boot in safe mode with networking
    5. Sign in to the PC using the password associated to the account.

This will boot the PC in safe mode with only the basic apps and services running, and with the network device enabled. The device should have a working internet connection in this mode.

Please tell me if this works and we'll continue troubleshooting in this mode.

    Hello Eiji T

Thanks for your fast reply. I did all the mentioned steps and restarted the system. Sadly it still took 38 seconds.

Edit: I tried it again to be 100% sure and the second time it took 59 seconds to login.
