I downloaded newest Windows 10 update today.  After my PC restarted, all of my settings were back to default and I lost my favorites in Microsoft Edge.  How do I restore this, and why did this happen in the first place??

Hi Ryan. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator. If you will work with me I will be here to help until the issue is resolved.

Check in Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Installed Update History if this was a Windows Update or a Version (Feature) Update.

    1. Usually what can cause this is a Version Update. If this was caused by a Version Update then for 10 days you can roll it back in Settings>Update & Security>Recovery and then hide it until it matures using the Hide Updates Tool which is explained more here:

    https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninsta....

If that doesn't work you can also Go Back in Repair Mode as shown here:

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanc...

    1. If this was caused by Windows Update(s) the first thing to try is to System Restore to a point before the problem began following this guide: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r...

If System Restore doesn't work or the Updates install again and cause the same problem, then see how to block them here: https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninsta...

    1. To avoid having Edge lose Favorites during Updates export them periodically to a file as shown here:

I would have several browsers on your task bar so there's always one that's best for the task. I use Firefox, Edge and Chrome in that order of preference. It's easy to share bookmarks between all of them in their settings under Import Favorites from another Browser. Firefox and Chrome let you sign in to save and/or sync your Favorites on any other device you sign into, and are more reliable than Edge at doing this. Set the preferred browser as Default in Settings > Apps > Default Apps.

If you want to express your opinion on this to Edge Developers you can choose the Edge Hub (three dots to right of URL address bar) then Help & Feedback, then Feedback form to fill out. If you want to click the Share link on your Feedback to post back a Share link to it here, if you are an Insider I can endorse it with my MVP badge and others who find this thread can vote it up and add to it.

    I hope this helps.

I did perform a system restore, and it basically fixed everything.  My webcam and touchscreen still do not work, but that is a separate issue that you have responded to on another post.

    Ryan -

Did you System Restore to see if it will go back to the better state? If so and it reinstalls and causes the same problem, I would uninstall and block it using the tool I gave earlier.

The most recent update was yesterday (4/7/20), and that's when I noticed the changes.  It was a Quality Update "2020-02 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 1903 for x64 (KB4537572)".  Does that tell you anything additionally?
