Where are Blutooth pairing buttons on Microsoft 'Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop' (Keyboard, Mouse, Number Pad, Dongle)?

Hi Forum,

I have a Microsoft 'Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop' (keyboard, mouse, number pad, dongle) model L5V-0000?. I have downloaded the driver for Windows 10 64-bit. Bluetooth is enabled on my laptop. The keyboard and mouse display ready to pair.

However, I cannot find a pairing key on either the mouse, keyboard or dongle. I cannot find an existing answer on these forums for this specific keyboard and mouse set. Please advise where the pairing key(s) are.

(There is no button underneath the keyboard, or at the sides, nor underneath the mouse (apart from the mouse on/off button)).

Thanks in advance,

J.

Yes they’re specific which is a shame.

A quick question - I assume you’ve tried new batteries on all the devices?

I use a Logitech mouse & keyboard, you can connect several devices to the dongle & if it requires replacing then you can connect the devices to the new dongle easily via their univying software.

    Hi Time Lady,

Unfortunately, there are no buttons (beyond the normal keyboard keys and mouse on/off button).

There was no paper work (except diagrams about removing the battery protectors, and an electrical safety leaflet).

    Best regards,

    Joan.

    Hi Time Lady,

Thank you for continuing to look into this for me.

It is the original dongle, there is only one for all 3 devices (keyboard, mouse, number pad).

I think there were various dongle types manufactured over time and so mine doesn't have a button.

The dongle connects to Windows okay and is discoverable in bluetooth.

After another couple of hours working with Microsoft Support, the conclusion is that the buttonless dongle connects automatically to Bluetooth. However, my dongle must be faulty because it doesn't communicate with the keyboard etc. (It must be the dongle at fault. If a device was faulty, the others would still work).

From forums, it is clear that I cannot replace the dongle. They are specific to that keyboard etc. (for security, to prevent nearby people's keyboards connecting?).

Which means that I need to purchase a whole new ergonomic keyboard and mouse. I will look for a wired set next time!

Thank you again for your help. Your link to Microsoft's Bluetooth Help for keyboards convinced me to contact Microsoft support. (That it wasn't just me doing something wrong). And Microsoft Support have exhausted all possible software solutions. At least I know that it will never work.

    Best regards,

    Joan.

    Hi Time Lady,

I'm sorry, I did not mean for it to be 'unhelpful'. The only option was 'did this fix the problem' (or words to that effect) with yes or no, so I clicked no. I added a note which was not critical at all but the system doesn't seem to be flexible enough for problems that do not have an immediate, quick fix.

I contacted Microsoft support and they tried to help me for three hours this afternoon (shared control of the laptop). They tried many things with no success. Eventually, the conclusion was to upgrade my version of Windows 10. That took a couple of hours so they signed off. The update is now complete and it has made no difference to the bluetooth keyboard issue.

I am very grateful for your support, and Microsoft's support. Whatever the problem is, it is clearly not easy to diagnose or fix.

I will look at the new link that you sent.

Thank you again for your support.

    Best regards,

    Joan.
