New apps stuck on “Windows Installer, Preparing to install”

Today, I downloaded two apps to my Windows 10 Samsung tablet to test for video music collaboration: JamKazam and Jamtaba. When opening the apps, they get stuck on “Windows Installer, Preparing to install.” My Windows Updates are current. Other programs previously installed, like Finale and Audacity, open without problems.

    Hello,

I'm your Independent Advisor for today. I know this can be frustrating, but don't worry. I'm here to figure this out for you.

Please start the PC in a clean boot state to check if there are other background apps which might be causing the issue:

    1. Right-click the Windows button > Select Run
    2. Type in "msconfig" without the quotes, then click OK.
    3. On the General tab, select Selective Startup. Then untick "Load startup items".
    4. On the Services tab, click "Hide all Microsoft services".
    5. Click "Disable all".
    6. On the Startup tab, click "Open Task Manager". A Task Manager window should open.
    7. Disable all startup items. You can also choose which startup items to disable, as certain devices might now work properly if the startup item related to it is disabled.
    8. Go back to your System Configuration window.
    9. Click Apply > OK
    10. Click "Restart" when prompted.

Once the PC goes back up, try to install the apps again.

    Please reply whatever the results.

    Greg,

I did with out effect, but I found another fix on my own. I took a video of opening the app, and saw better how it appeared the Yamaha Steinberg USB drivers might be the problem.

I went to https://www.steinberg.net/en/support/downloads\_hardware/yamaha\_steinberg\_usb\_driver.html and downloaded and installed the current version. Now the Jamkazam app is opening without delay and functioning. Thanks so much for all of your ideas.

I still see "Another instance is running: Configuration system failed to initialize" when I start my tablet.

Is that a concern, and if so, what should I do about it? Thanks again.

    Eiji,

Here are the tests I ran today.

    Uninstalled app

Clean reboot with ethernet and wifi disabled

    Installed taking 30 minutes

After 30 minutes, Windows Installer: Install server not responding

    Cancelled

    App opened

    Generated log

    App functioned

Closed app and reopened and functioned fine

Closed app and disconnected ethernet and went to wifi for a minute

    Reconnected ethernet and disabled wifi

Selected app but had to wait 30 minutes again

After 30 minutes, Windows Installer: Install server not responding

    Cancelled

    App opened

    Generated log

    App functioned

Closed app and reopened and functioned fine

    Regular reboot with wifi

Selected app but had to wait 30 minutes again

After 30 minutes, Windows Installer: Install server not responding

    Connected ethernet and disabled wifi

    Cancelled

    App opened

    App functioned

Closed app and reopened and functioned fine

    Conclusions:

The clean boot was not consequential

Opening the app after using wifi leads to 30 minute loading, install server not responding, canceling to open app does not work if still on wifi

Opening the app after using wifi leads to 30 minute loading, install server not responding, canceling to open app works if using ethernet cord with wifi disabled and app opens again without delay as long as still on ethernet cord

Opening the app after powering up using ethernet cord with wifi disabled leads to 30 minute loading, install server not responding, canceling to open app works if still using ethernet cord with wifi disabled and app opens again without delay as long as still on ethernet cord

Any first opening of the app creates the 30 minute delay.

Once the app is opens using ethernet cord with wifi disabled, closing and subsequent opening of the app words without delay.

    Here are the logs.

Let me know what you think.

When you turn the computer on there are apps that run at startup. Doing the steps above disable them and if the apps you're trying to install pushed through, it means one of the previous startup apps is causing the problem.

You can then determine which app it is and remove it by following the steps under "How to determine what is causing the problem after you do a clean boot" in the link below:

    Please keep me posted.

    Eiji,

Thanks. Should I remove the stalled apps before I do this? What does disabling do? If this all works, do I need to go back an enable the apps I disabled? Thanks.
