How do I make the search tool on the tool bar only give me results from my computer.

Hi

The search bar is searching the web for things I'm trying to find on my computer and it's obnoxious. How do I turn it off?

Follow up: Cortana's privacy settings are nowhere to be found.

Thanks

MrTorquil

If you have Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise, you can disable it via Group Policy Editor:

    1. Press Windows key + R, to open the Run dialog box.
    2. Type gpedit.msc and click on OK.
    3. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Search.
    4. On the right pane, double click on Don’t search the web or display web results in Search and select Enabled.
    5. Click on OK. Restart the computer.

I looked at the link you sent. It's from 2015, and the menus don't look like that anymore. Things it's wanting me to click on don't exist anymore.

    Thanks for the response.

I usually do that when I'm searching for files. I use the search on the task bar when I"m looking for a setting without having to click through the maze to find the thing I need. Example: today I needed to calibrate a joystick. I typed joystick into the search bar and get adds selling me joysticks.

I used to have the web portion of search disabled, but a recent update "fixed" it for me.

    Thanks for the response.

Have you tried the search in File Explorer which looks only at your files.
