USB3.0 ports not working - Windows 10- 64 bit(1909)

Hi all,

My USB 3.0 ports in my laptop are not working but my only USB 2.0 is working.

I have this issue for more than a year and I suspect it is due to Windows 10 update from Windows 7.

I tried a lot to fix this issue from online forums (including this forum) before and even now but still I dont have a solution.

I believe its due to driver issue. Now, I don't see any "Intel USB3.0 eXtensible host Controller" under Universal Serial bus controllers in Device Manager.

I tried to install the USB3.0 host controller driver from Dell website and still I have the same issue.  Even the compatibility mode supports till Windows 8 only and not Windows 10. In Intel site, I don't see any driver for my chipset. I believe Intel removed the driver for this chipset now as I see broken links.

Also, I am using the updated BIOS (2012 dated) from dell and the chipset driver.

Below are the information of my system.

Model : Dell Inspiron 14z (N411z) laptop

OS - Windows 10 version 1909 (64 bit)

Processor : Mobile Intel Core i5 2430M (Sand Bridge) - 2nd generation

Chipset : Intel 6 series C200 series

Bios : A06 (from Dell)

Any guidance is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Actually, I believe not having proper USB 3.0 drivers for Windows 10 is the issue.

Yes, I right clicked on Unknown device and tried to update the drivers but Windows says that it cannot find suitable drivers.

As per the link (https://www.kapilarya.com/fix-usb-ports-not-working-in-windows-10), I think I need to install first the "Intel USB 3.0  eXtensible host controller -1.0" ( marked yellow in the picture) from microsoft with respect to my Intel 6 series C200 chipset.

As mentioned earlier, Intel told me to check with Microsoft! Please let me know from where I can get this driver.

Have you visited the Intel website & checked for the drivers?

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/22824...

If this isn’t the correct driver then please install Intel’s driver support assistant to automatically find the correct driver & install it:

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/

Do you still have the drivers from the PC manufacturer? If so check to see if they have the driver.

Note: This is a non-Microsoft website. The page appears to be providing accurate, safe information. Watch out for ads on the site that may advertise products frequently classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Products).

Please do not download any repair tool which may be offered by this site other than the ones I mention/recommend.

Thoroughly research any product which is mentioned here before you decide to download and install it.

    Thanks for your quick response.

    1) I have already looked into the intel link which you have shared and I did not find driver of my chipset (Intel 6 series C200). Moreover, when I tried to install it, I get "Operating system is not supported". Cannot install in compatibility mode also.

    1. Also, I already installed Intel’s driver support assistanttoo**,**but I get "Sorry, we didn't find any supported Intel drivers or software".

Moreover, I contacted Intel support and they told me to contact Microsoft!

    3) I checked inDell website (https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/inspiron-n411z/drivers), only thing I could find is "Renesas USB3.0 Host Controller Driver". I installed it in compatibility mode as it supports up to Windows 7 only. But still, I face the same issue.

From what I can find it seems Renesas USB3.0 Host Controller Driver is an Intel driver under a different name.

I’ve searched for that particular driver but it is unavailable even from the Microsoft update catalogue.

We’re just a user-to-user forum so I cannot check with Microsoft for the driver.

I’ll keep checking for other solutions.
