USB3.0 ports not working - Windows 10- 64 bit(1909)

Hi all,

My USB 3.0 ports in my laptop are not working but my only USB 2.0 is working.

I have this issue for more than a year and I suspect it is due to Windows 10 update from Windows 7.

I tried a lot to fix this issue from online forums (including this forum) before and even now but still I dont have a solution.

I believe its due to driver issue. Now, I don't see any "Intel USB3.0 eXtensible host Controller" under Universal Serial bus controllers in Device Manager.

I tried to install the USB3.0 host controller driver from Dell website and still I have the same issue.  Even the compatibility mode supports till Windows 8 only and not Windows 10. In Intel site, I don't see any driver for my chipset. I believe Intel removed the driver for this chipset now as I see broken links.

Also, I am using the updated BIOS (2012 dated) from dell and the chipset driver.

Below are the information of my system.

Model : Dell Inspiron 14z (N411z) laptop

OS - Windows 10 version 1909 (64 bit)

Processor : Mobile Intel Core i5 2430M (Sand Bridge) - 2nd generation

Chipset : Intel 6 series C200 series

Bios : A06 (from Dell)

Any guidance is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, however I cannot find any Intel drivers for it.

Had the USB 3 ports appeared under device manager then we could’ve tried another solution.

Do you know what the unknown device is under ‘other’s in your screenshot?

    I’ll keep checking.

Then it may be that the ports/PC isn’t compatible with Windows 10.

Have you right clicked on the unknown device & chosen to update the drivers?

I’ll keep checking for a solution.

Do USB 2 devices work in the USB 3 ports or is nothing at all working in them?

I wonder if the USB3 port module has failed especially as you’ve downloaded the driver from Dell.

Thanks a lot for looking out and getting back to me asap. I apologize for my delayed response.

As you have suggested, when I tried to install

"Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver 5.0.3.42" from the link,

    I get the below error.

FYI, I ran this setup in compatibility mode but it supports till Windows 8 only and not Windows 10!

Moreover your link mentions "Intel 200 Series Chipset Family + Skylake CPU Platform"

but my PC is of **"Intel 6 series/C200 series Chipset family - (Sandy Bridge CPU) - 2nd generation Intel Core processor".**I believe this may also be an issue.

Also, I tried to install "Intel USB 3.0 Driver 4.0.0.36/1.0.10.255" from the same website**(https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/intel_usb_3_driver.html)** as it meets my system requirements (2nd generation Core processor), but unfortunately it is a broken link from Intel!

Not sure what else to do.
