Hi

I have a H.P. Pavilion Laptop 575RH8LC

Windows 10 Home 1909 Build 18363.720  Updated 11 April 2020

The speakers are working fine.

The microphone is not working. Named Realtek High Definition Audio.

The Realtek driver is listed as 6.0.1.8186

I use the "Test" Facility - nothing.

I go to Properties - Events, I get

Device HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0295&SUBSYS_103C8215&REV_1000\4&20c67dd5&0&0001 requires further installation.

Can someone talk me in simple words what I can do to get the Mic to work please.

Thanks in anticipation

    Hi Bargeman,

My name is Jocelyn, an independent advisor, and a fellow Windows 10 user happy to help.

Please try the following steps and check if it helps.

    1. Set Microphone as Default Device

Right-click the Speaker Icon at the bottom right corner. A context menu will pop up.

Click Recording devices on the pop-up menu.

In the Sound dialog box, click the Recording tab. If you see the Microphone is not the Default, click the Set Default button to set it to default.

    Click OK > Apply.

If the microphone is not listed, use the following steps to show disabled and disconnected devices:

Right-click an empty area of the Sound window.

Click Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices.

If the microphone is listed as Currently unavailable or Not plugged in, disconnect it, and then reconnect it to the port.

Then you can select the Microphone as Default Device when available.

    1. Run a Troubleshooter

Search for and open Control Panel.

    Click Troubleshooting.

Under Hardware and Sound, click Troubleshoot audio recording.

The Sound troubleshooter opens. Click Next. The troubleshooter begins checking the audio service status.

    1. Update All Drivers

In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.

Double-click Sound, video and game controllers.

Right-click the name of the sound hardware, and then select Update Driver.

Click Search automatically for updated driver software, and then wait for Windows to update the driver software.

When the update is installed successfully, a Windows has finished installing the driver software for this device window displays.

    Test the microphone.

Let me know if you need further assistance. Thank you.

    Best,

    Jocelyn

    1. I don't know how old is your laptop.

If you have a really OLD laptop, I would suggest you install 6.0.8874.1 driver from Microsoft Update Catalog.

    https://www.tenforums.com/sound-audio/135259-latest-realtek-hd-audio-driver-version-2-a.html

    1. If you have a laptop from the last 2 years, don't install that driver.
    2. Check your BIOS if you have anything disabled.

    4)  Laptops sometimes have a physical kill button for webcam and microphone.

    Hello Jocelyn

    Thank you for your suggestions.

I have over the last two days worked through then all, with no result.

I have only just seen the following in "General" Properties.  This makes me think that something physical has happened either to the Mic(s), lead or sound card connection which is preventing the Soundcard from communicating with the Mic(s).

"The device you are configuring has been removed"

Unfortunately there is not a 3.5mm jack port to try an external mic, and I don't have a USB one here to try.

    Again thanks for your help.
