Hello!

I'd like to ask for help using the Windows Camera. I keep getting the error :

Can't start your camera

If you're sure the camera is connected and installed properly, try checking for updated drivers.

If you need it, here's the code:

0xA00F4241<CameraSwitchFailed> (0x800706BE)

My ASUS tablet has two cameras. The front-facing camera works, but if I try the world-facing one, i encounter that error.

So far I've tried the following:

  1. Uninstall, reinstall, and update drivers
  2. Full reset of Windows, then uninstall, reinstall, and update drivers
  3. Privacy settings
  4. Disable Windows Defender / Firewall
  5. EnableFrameServerMode workaround (breaks the front camera too)

What is interesting is that the world-facing camera works when I try it on Skype or Viber.

I saw the following errors in the Event Viewer:

Faulting application name: svchost.exe_FrameServer, version: 10.0.18362.1, time stamp: 0x32d6c210

Faulting package full name:

Faulting package-relative application ID:

I am on Version 1909, Build 18363.815. DxDiag shows 3 video capture devices, 1 front, 1 rear, and 1 IR camera....

Could this be a driver issue? If so, how can I upgrade the ones I already have? Windows Update says there are no new updates.

Thanks!

Update -- it seems to affect only Store apps? I've tried the following:

    • Viber (desktop app) - OK
    • Skype (Store app) - NO
    • OneNote 2016 (desktop) - OK
    • WIndows Camera (Store) - NO
    • ManyCam Free (desktop) - OK (rear camera stops after a few seconds)

I've also discovered that while ManyCam is open, if I switch to the Windows Camera app, then the rear camera would work, and ManyCam's watermark would be in in the image. When recording video this way, or in OneNote 2016 above, there's no sound.
