There are currently no power options available

Hi,

I've  been having some trouble with my laptop lately. Im running on Windows 10 Home and since a short time I can't turn off my laptop via the power symbol in the menu. It will say: There are currently no power options available (translated from Dutch). I've checked every single forum about this but nothing works. For example: If I search for 'gpedit.msc' or 'gpedit' via Win + r, it says that it's not on my computer. The same thing for 'secpol.msc'. I have administrator permissions on my account. The settings for the energy menu are right as well. I don't really know what to do at this point in time. Can anyone help me please?

Wouter

    Hi Wouter368,

    I'm sorry to hear that the power menu options are gone, I'll be happy to provide you some steps that could resolve this issue.

    • Press Windows + X and select Command Prompt (Admin)
    • type this and enter: sfc /scannow
    • type this and enter:DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    • Restart the device: Since there is no way to restart using the power menu, just copy and paste this command using the same Command Prompt: shutdown /r -t 5

    If that did not solve the issue, just reply back so I can provide the next steps.

    Hi Lee,

    I updated to Windows 10 version 1909 on the 12th of april. It took approximately around 20-30 minutes. The power buttons are still unaivalable, and I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but when I wanted to download a file of 250mb it literally took 3 hours. I think it downloaded at a speed of around 50 kb/s, it was very slow. I've been running into a lot of these small issues lately. Should I maybe just go for a complete reset of the computer? Because I'm kind of tired of facing all these problems with my computer and I think that a complete reset might help (after I made a back-up of course).

    Hi Lee,

    I've tried these steps and it unfortunately didn't work... I might failed doing the last step because when I copied the command /r -t 5 into the command prompt it didn't work. I found another way to restart my laptop but I still couldn't access the power buttons.

    Hi Wouter368,

    Alright then. Please try the following:

    • Right click the battery icon on the bottom right and choose Power Options
    • On the left pane, select "Choose what the power buttons do"
    • Click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable" (see screenshot attached)
    • Under shutdown settings, make sure all check boxes for Turn on fast startup, Sleep, Hibernate, Lock are checked.

    If that did not solve the issue, please try to download the latest update.

    >>> Windows Update Method 1:

    • Go to Start > Settings > Updates & Security > Check for updates

    >>> Windows Update Method 2:

    • Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...
    • Click Update now and download the Windows Update Assistant
    • Run the Windows Update Assistant and follow the prompt
    • Once done, it is normal that you computer will restart multiple times

    If my suggestion did not solve the issue, please reply back so we can try other step.

    Kind Regards,

    < / L e e >

    Hi Lee,

    I had already done that first step. But I found an update that I could do, so I updated my laptop. After updating it and restarting it after it had updated, there was unfortunately yet the same message when I wanted to click the power button...
