BITS has encountered an error communicating with an Internet Gateway Device

Hi,

The last few weeks I get a lot (every 28 seconds) this warning:

"BITS has encountered an error communicating with an Internet Gateway Device.  Please check that the device is functioning properly. BITS will not attempt to use this device until the next system reboot. Error code: 0x80072F78."

Can someone tell me what this is and how I can fix it.

W10 Pro,

version 1909,

build 18363,752

Kind regards,

Ron

    Hi Ronnoo,

I'm sorry to hear that. You can, however, I would try this below first though.

Go to Control Panel > Troubleshooting > in the left pane, click "View all" > click "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" & follow the instructions to completion. Reboot your PC & test again.

If that fails, then I suggest restoring your OS by either performing a "System Restore", or "Reset your PC > Keep Files/Apps" or "Installation Media" option. Here's how to do it below.

I hope this helps. Let me know how you go. Thank you!

    Hi Ronnoo,

Got it, thanks. If that's the case & if you still encounter the same error, then it's all good to just leave it to turn off.

I hope this helps. Let me know how you go. Thank you!

    Sincerely,

    Paul A.

    Hi Ronnoo,

I'm Paul, a fellow customer like you & an Independent Advisor. That error means your computer is attempting to download Windows updates from your company's WSUS server. That means, your company is managing Windows updates locally & the error should go away, as soon as, you're connected to your company's VPN or internal network & let the update finish.

Otherwise, you can try rebooting the service by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC keys together >click File menu > click "Run new task" > type cmd & tick the checkbox "Create this task with administrative privileges" > click OK > copy/paste below command one line at a time. Reboot your PC & check the issue.

    sc stop bits

    sc start bits

I hope this helps. Let me know how you go. Thank you!

    Sincerely,

    Paul A.
